Gmail MCP server
Your agent reads, searches and answers your Gmail. You approve what it sends.

Anaella is a hosted MCP server. Connect your Gmail once with Google sign in, add one URL to Claude, Cursor or any MCP client, and your agent gets typed email tools: search the inbox, read a whole thread, read the PDF attached to it, label, archive and send.
There is nothing to install and no Google Cloud project to set up. Anaella holds the OAuth tokens and refreshes them; the agent never sees them. The same tools work for Outlook and any IMAP mailbox, so an agent written for Gmail keeps working when a client uses something else.
Tools
What your agent can do in Gmail
Typed tools with input schemas, so the agent calls them right the first time. Account tools are free on every plan.
email.listSearch the inbox with Gmail query syntax: sender, subject, unread, date, label.
email.getRead one email: headers, text body and the list of attachments.
email.thread.getRead a whole conversation, every message oldest first.
email.attachment.readRead the text of an attachment: PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or plain text.
email.sendSend a new email or reply in the thread, as you, from your own address.
email.modifyMark read or unread, star, archive, label or trash a message.
email.folders.listThe labels of the mailbox, to file and filter by.
A watch on email.list is pushed by Gmail through Google Pub/Sub: new mail reaches your agent within seconds, with no polling.
Examples
Ask it in plain words
- “Summarize the unread email from clients this week and draft a reply to each one.”
- “Find the last invoice from our accountant and tell me the total and due date.”
- “Archive every newsletter older than a month, and label the receipts.”
- “Tell me when an email from @acme.com arrives, and draft an answer for me to approve.”
Setup
Connected in two minutes
- 01
Create a free Anaella account and connect Gmail from Channels.
- 02
In Claude, add a custom connector with the URL https://api.anaella.com/mcp and sign in. Cursor, Claude Code and other MCP clients take the URL with an API key, as below.
- 03
Ask your agent to do something in Gmail. Writes come to you for approval first.
{
"mcpServers": {
"anaella": {
"url": "https://api.anaella.com/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ana_..." }
}
}
}The same server reaches every account you connect: one URL for Gmail and the rest. More setup options
Gmail MCP FAQ
Do I need a Google Cloud project or my own OAuth client?+
No. You sign in with Google from Anaella and pick the account. Anaella keeps the tokens and refreshes them, and your agent only ever holds its Anaella API key.
Can the agent send email without asking me?+
In chat assistants such as Claude, every send is a tool call you approve first. In automations, writes wait in an approval queue by default, and you choose per automation whether they can run by themselves.
Does it work with Google Workspace accounts?+
Yes. Personal Gmail and Google Workspace mailboxes connect the same way. A Workspace admin can restrict third party apps, in which case they need to allow Anaella first.
Can it read attachments?+
Yes. email.attachment.read returns the text of PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and text attachments, so the agent can answer questions about an invoice or a contract without you opening it.
